Bossypants Audiobook by Tina Fey

What’s it about?

As head writer, executive producer, and star of NBC’s Emmy Award-winning 30 Rock, Tina Fey is a woman at the top of her field. In Bossypants, Tina recalls her humble roots growing up in Pennsylvania to her days doing amateur improv in Chicago to her transition into writing for Saturday Night Live and her eventual creation of 30 Rock. As you would hope, she tells her story with all the wit, candor, and self-deprecation that has made her famous.

Is the narrator any good?

Tina Fey narrates the Bossypants audiobook herself. Her delivery is great, and the story is greatly enhanced by Tina’s own timing and vocal inflection. It’s hard to imagine how reading the text could be anywhere near as satisfying as listening to the audiobook version.

The verdict?

If you’re a fan of Tina Fey – whether from SNL, Mean Girls or 30 Rock – you’ll love this audiobook for both its humor and the many peeks behind the curtain (e.g. during the six weeks Tina spent channeling Sarah Palin on SNL). If you’re not too familiar with Tina’s work (and I admit I wasn’t before listening to this audiobook), then you may want to check that Tina’s humor is your cup of tea before downloading the audiobook. Here are a few memorable quotes that I enjoyed:

“To say I’m an overrated troll when you have never even seen me guard a bridge, is patently unfair”

“[Airbrushing] is appalling and a tragic reflection on the moral decay of our society … unless I need it, in which case, everybody be cool.”

“When Oprah Winfrey is suggesting that you have overextended yourself, you need to examine your f—ing life.”

In summary, this is a highly enjoyable audiobook – I was looking for something entertaining and funny and it met these wishes perfectly. And I’m obviously not the only listener who enjoyed it – as I write this the audiobook has a very strong rating of 4.56 / 5 on Audible with many listeners reporting making a public spectacle of themselves in public from laughing so much. Enjoy!

Note: the audiobook also comes with a PDF that can be downloaded from the “My Library” section of Audible so you don’t miss out on anything by purchasing the audiobook version.
