Unbroken Audiobook by Laura Hillenbrand

Unbroken audiobook

What’s it about?

Unbroken tells the incredible and inspiring true story of Louie Zamperini. As a kid, Louie was a hellraiser breaking into houses, brawling, and running away from home to ride the rails. But as a teenager, Louie turned his life around by channeling his defiance into running, a talent which would take him to the Berlin Olympics and within sight of the four-minute mile. The heart of the story, though, is Louie’s experiences while serving in the Pacific during World War II.

When World War II started Louie joined the Army Air Corps, becoming a bombardier. In 1943 Louie’s plane crashed into the ocean during a routine search mission over the Pacific. What happened to him over the next three years of his life is a story that will keep you spellbound.

Is the narrator any good?

Edward Herrmann, an award-winning actor with a number of popular audiobooks to his name, is the narrator of the Unbroken audiobook. His performance is brilliant.

The verdict?

This audiobook caught my attention because of its high ratings and status as a New York Times Best Seller (it is also now a major motion picture). As luck would have it, I stumbled across a story that ranks as one of my all-time favorites.

Unbroken is a testament to the resilience of the human mind, body, and spirit. Laura Hillenbrand, the author of Seabiscuit (a 2001 best seller which has six million books in print and became a hit movie), has written a beautiful and thoroughly researched book that captivates from start to finish. You won’t regret listening to this audiobook.
