Best Audiobooks on Everand
The Dutch House
Written by Ann Patchett. Narrated by Tom Hanks
The Dutch House tells the story of a brother and sister, Danny and Maeve Conroy, who grow up in a mansion known as the Dutch House, and their lives over five decades. The novel was a finalist for the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. What really makes this audiobook stand out is the narration by Tom Hanks who brings sensitivity, warmth, and humor to the character of Danny from whose perspective the story is told.
American Gods
Written by Neil Gaiman. Narrated by a full cast.
First published in 2001, American Gods became an instant classic, lauded for its brilliant synthesis of “mystery, satire, sex, horror, and poetic prose” (Washington Post). In 2011, a full-cast audiobook version of the tenth-anniversary edition was released. The performances really bring this story to life making it a perfect example of what a full-cast audiobook can be.
Never Split the Difference

Chris Voss is a former international hostage negotiator for the FBI. Never Split the Difference offers a field-tested approach to negotiating, whether it be buying a car, discussing a salary, buying a home, renegotiating rent, or deliberating with your partner. I found the stories of high-stakes negotiations with the FBI fascinating and the advice to be incredibly useful.
The Fellowship of the Ring
Written by J. R. R. Tolkien. Narrated by Andy Serkis.
This version of The Fellowship of the Ring, the first part of J. R. R. Tolkien’s epic adventure The Lord of the Rings, was released in 2021 and is read by Andy Serkis, the actor who provided the motion capture movements and voice for the CGI character of Gollum in the film trilogy. This isn’t just a narration by Serkis, it’s a performance. Characters are given unique voices and feelings, and scenes are skillfully acted out. Even the singing parts are impressive, with songs sung in the voice of the character.

If you’ve avoided King until now because of the horror elements, 11-22-63 is a great way to experience one of the most prolific writers in the world.
The Storyteller

The Storyteller sees rock music legend Dave Grohl telling tales of hitting the road with Scream at 18 years old, his time in Nirvana, and, of course, the Foo Fighters. You’ll also hear tales of jamming with Iggy Pop, drumming with Tom Petty, and how a visit to Neil Young’s house helped him realize he could have music and family. Listening to Dave tell stories from his amazing life is a treat. This is a must-listen for rock music fans.
Black Sun

Tucci includes some of his favorite recipes, sprinkles in a few famous names, and touches on his own personal health challenges. All in all, I found Taste to be a delicious story of family, friends, and food narrated with warmth and sincerity by the actor.
All Systems Red

All Systems Red is the first novella in Martha Wells’ series The Murderbot Diaries. The book has a deep message about the nature of consciousness and what it means to be alive. Beautifully narrated by Kevin R. Free, this entertaining, fun, yet profound audiobook is one of our picks for the best sci-fi audiobooks of all time.
The Last House on Needless Street
Written by Catriona Ward. Narrated by Christopher Ragland.

13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do is a guide to becoming more mentally strong. What I really like about this pick is that Morin knows that of which she speaks. At just 26, while working as a psychologist and therapist, Morin’s husband died suddenly. Inwardly reeling, she realized what pitfalls she didn’t want to succumb to and so developed these principles and refined them while working with countless patients.
Angela’s Ashes
Written by Frank McCourt. Narrated by the author.
Born in Depression-era Brooklyn to Irish immigrant parents, Frank McCourt was later raised in the slums of Limerick, Ireland. Angela’s Ashes is the story of how Frank endured – wearing shoes repaired with tires, begging for a pig’s head for Christmas dinner, and searching the pubs for his father. Angela’s Ashes is a celebrated book, having won the Pulitzer Prize in 1997, but to listen to McCourt tell his story with eloquence, exuberance, and remarkable forgiveness is something else; I truly feel as if people who have only read vs. listening to the book have missed out on something.

Red Rising is a dystopian science fiction story set in the future on Mars. The story follows Darrow, a member of the lowest caste in a color-coded society, on a quest to infiltrate the dominant Gold caste and overthrow his enemies. Red Rising is a great pick if you enjoyed books such as The Hunger Games or Ender’s Game. Also, this is another pick where the narration brings this book alive; Tim Gerard Reynolds lives the role of Darrow bringing the perfect amounts of sadness and rage to the character.
Outlander
Written by Diana Gabaldon. Narrated by Davina Porter.
A bestseller turned smash TV hit, Outlander is a historical romance and time-traveling adventure set in medieval Scotland and 1940s England. Narrator Davina Porter switches between English and Scottish accents with ease bringing characters from different eras and countries to life.
